About

EotL is a personal project and publication for exploring the Christian faith and pursuing Christ. The name "Eye on the Lion" is a reference to a passage in Lewis's first book in the Chronicles of Narnia series where the character Edmund is able to withstand the accusations of his enemies because his eyes are fixed on the lion, Aslan.

The goal for this site is two-fold: the pursuit of knowing God better and the practical application of  that knowledge. Some personal influences that will set the overall tone for the content here are:

  • Sonship study with a local group of men that explored the Gospel and taking 'head' knowledge and pursuing making it 'heart' knowledge.
  • George Herbert's poem Love (III) .
  • J.I. Packer's emphasis in the book Knowing God on having a relationship with God, as opposed to simply knowing about God.
  • Ray Ortlund's call to action in The Death of Porn to champion human dignity in light of God's design and oppose the destructive narratives and pursuits of pornography in our society.
  • Exposure to the work of organizations like CCEF, and the counselors and authors who operate within the Christo-centric, whole-person, realm of Biblical counseling.

Underneath all of these influencing factors lies a singular foundation: God's mercy in Jesus Christ to sinners. I am a traitor restored, a slave made free, a prodigal given a family. Christ alone offers living water that can satisfy the deepest longings of the human heart,  he alone can cleanse guilt, he alone can deliver from bondage, he alone can remove shame, and he alone is able to bring true justice. In the days to come I hope to pursue knowing Him better, and continuously point myself, and others, to Him as the only hope for humanity.

if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. ~Romans 10:9-13
